Actually if you're going to be doing this stuff commercially air tools are the way to go and there are some really nice pneumatic random orbit sanders out there. Of course now you're really talking expensive with a big compressor etc.

I'm aware that he has a vested interest in painting the favorable picture for his sales, but the fellow I buy my abrasives from says that he's selling a lot of Mirka Ceros sanders to autobody guys and furniture shops that were using air (Dynabrade, etc) sanders.
My compressor is on a 20A 240v circuit and would have to run continuously to power an air RO sander. And, compressors do wear out. It didn't make sense to me.

The Ceros is a great tool if you are shopping in the Festool price bracket. I really like mine. The Mirka mesh abrasive disks are excellent as well.
I hate sanding, so a good sander and fresh abrasives are the price of the hobby for me. I've never had a lot of luck scraping nice shavings from softwoods; a sharp scraper and maple or rosewood guitar wood is a lot of fun.
