I'm only adding more questions, not answers. So what if one sands into glass and exposes the fiber? What is the best way to deal with the fiber to guarantee that it will absorb epoxy? If I were making a repair, I might be happy to get what ever I got. But I'm dealing with fabric edges also. (a first kayak) I've sanded to the point of getting mostly white flecks prior to recoating, but I'm afraid to recoat since I don't know if that's glass or stressed epoxy. I'm more of a hand sanding type of guy on finishes, but willing to be bold.

As I think I'm nearing the end of my Guillimot construction, I'm interested on advice about avoiding drips in the final finishing process. I tried to layer on the epoxy meticulously, with a plastic spatula spreader and tried foam brushes as well, and as flat as it looked when I was done, the next day it became evident that there were numerous drips or at least ridges. I was able to leel most of these with a carbide scraper and then my orbital saner, but found that even with 120 grit paper I ends up exposing some of the weave of the cloth and had to apply another skim coat to cover that. It too now has drips. I am about to sand again and then varnish, but feel I'm in an infinite cycle of drips. Any advice welcome.

By the way I have experience finishing fine furniture and was going to rub out the final coat of varnish with steel wool or possibly sand with 400 then 600 and rub out with pumice, as you might on a dining room table, to create a hand rubbed gloss. Is this normally necessary or do you just brush on the varnish and leave it? THanks,
