Many years back when I first heard about people grinding their planes flat and sides perpendicular I check out all of mine and they are all dead on. It just never seemed to make sense that anybody would manufacture a plane and not make it dead on. I have never run into that.

Plus my Stanley low angle blade was razor sharp when I bought it. (not the sweet heart - just the girl down the street)
I have no exotics but the steel is super and the blades hold edges forever. I have one long jointer plane that I have used to put a clean edge on boards for strips. (old stanley - all steel).
