Yep ,I also meticulously trace them ,onto tracing paper ,and retube the originals just to keep the plans intact for reference

I think I'm even more 'old school' than you...
Once I have the duplicate(s), I trace half-sections using carbon paper (remember that stuff? It's getting scarce these days...) on to heavy poster board (a.k.a. Bristol Board). Once those half sections are cut out, I use them as templates for laying out the forms.
I'm still stuck in the David Hazen and MCA canoe-building habits from 30 years ago, I guess. :-)
I tried gluing paper to form material but didn't like the results - it was easy for me to distort the paper with too-vigorous rolling and the spray-on adhesives left a raggedy paper edge after the bandsaw.
