Do you have a external or internal frame support? You have to have the forms aligned 1/2 inch is way off the beam. Form misalignment will follow you ever step of the way.

The mold setup is the Ted Moores style as described in KayakCraft, from the picture.

BTW, when I'm setting up molds, I like to have as much room as possible on both sides of the boat...it helps me to 'eyeball' alignment. Once I get started with stripping, the setup is rigid enough that I can move it to work on one side at a time.

Also, I now use polyester thread for checking alignment rather than string - less sag. (Yeah, I tried the laser gizmos but string was faster and more accurate for me....so 19th century!)
