I just had the same problem with my first build and used ratchet straps successfully and lots of strapping tape. i have trouble defining a "gap" versus a visible joint line. (Call it a very small gap.)
I got the glass "tape" in place well on 3 out of 4 joints. The 4th isn't too bad, just short of the least 6 inches or so. Pretty sure I will use a different process in future boats.
