Dan,

I seriously suggest replacing your drive belt with a "twist lock" belt if you have not already.
This will remove a lot of vibration in the blade.
Unfortunately that kind of vibration won't cause 1/16" thickness variation, just a fuzzy cut (not smooth).
You really need to borrow a dial guage and check for run-out on the arbor. If the arbor shaft can move across the cut it can cause the variation.
One way I get consistent strips is to cut 9/32" width strips (just an example to end up with 1/4") using a finger board in front of the saw blade.
Then take the nearly correct size strip back thru to cut 1/4" with a fingerboard before and after the blade. I do not use the short fence like ET, I run up against the full length fence, so that the second fingerboard is pushing the strip onto the fence. This keeps the strip exiting the blade from vibrating or curling due to internal stresses. A splitter will do some of the same thing, but does not have a positive pressure on the strip and guide.

The single worst thing about a skill saw on a track is having to adjust for each cut - like you said. Personally I want the setup to not change for the entire set of strips for a boat.
