What would be recommended as shoes to wear over the drysuit socks? I have a pair of keen sandals that I was thinking of using.

As Bill mentioned ,you need to protect the drysuit socks. I keep a couple of foam squares (the interlocking stuff they sell for workshop or exercise room floors) in the car so I have something smooth and clean to stand on if I'm donning/doffing the suit.

Footwear:
I have a pair of short Chotas with side zips that I like a lot, though they are a bit bulky in tight-fitting boat, or for working rudder pedals.
I've also used slip-on 'booties' from a couple of places (MEC, LevelSix) and they work well, though you don't want to do a lot of walking in them...they are fine for a short walk from the parking lot to the beach. The heels will wear through. Good for quick exits and entrances into the boat, and for swimming. ;-)

One of my kayak teachers wears neoprene socks over the GoreTex drysuit socks and then just sneakers with the insoles removed.
What I wouldn't recommend is something I tried: a pair of 'water shoes' with mesh uppers 'to drain'. (Mine are Merrells). Sand will magically appear inside the shoes and start grinding away at the GoreTex socks. (Thus the neo socks between the sneakers and the drysuit in the suggestion above.)

As Bill says, by the time you put on heavy (wool or synthetic)socks and the drysuit socks you'll probably need to go up a half size or more in shoes. However, the slip-on booties do stretch and are useless if too large.
