If you are the tallest person likely to paddle the kayak, the front bulkhead can become your footrest.

If someone shorter than you paddles it, you can fit foam against the bulkhead to suit their shorter legs.

If you are fitting separate footrests, the design of those footrests and their mounts will determine how far away from the longest setting the bulkhead needs to be.
