No need to justify where the time went with your build. I'm approaching 2 years myself and mine is no where as artistic as yours.
Can I ask what the final grit was when you sanded into the glass? Maybe it just appears to not want to wet out when in fact it may be a scratched surface of the glass. Try re-sanding with progressively finer grits alternating the sanding direction 90 degrees for each sucessive grit and gradually end up with wet sanding at 600 or better. What I'm thinking is you need to polish the glass to make it disappear. Just make sure all traces of the previous grit are vacuumed and use a tack cloth just to be sure.
