Can you expand on this part a little?

I'm at the point where I'm about to cut my strips (1" thick x 1/4 width) is the general idea to rip that strip with a 7deg bevel? I'm assuming it would have to be on both sides right?

Gero explained it well - I agree with his comments. Putting on a bevel makes strip production into a 2-step process, but it is worth the trouble, IMO.
Putting your 1/4 x 1 strips through the saw to bevel the edge will make you glad you built decent support tables and featherboards to hold the strip down.
A couple of additional thoughts:
Consider ripping a few of your strips in half (which will bevel both strips on one edge) to make some narrow strips, which can be handy if you have sharp curves in your boat.
Before you start ripping, have a look at the clearance around your saw blade - some of those 'jobsite saws' have very wide slots in the table insert, so be careful not to have a setup where a strip can be pulled down into the slot. A tight clearance insert is safer, but not always easy to arrange, depending on the saw design.
