John... Thanks for your response.. and the possible fiberglass sources... It looks like my best plan of action might be to cut some bias strips as you suggested, due the woven edges that are on the factory seam tapes. That definenty sounds like I could get a better transition at the seam.

Cutting the strips with my leftover 6oz cloth was my first thought, but I was scared of the raveled ends that I would end up with, so I threw that idea out too fast. It sounds like you have the trick solved with the rotary tool to do the job. I will certainly give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestions, great info and best of all saving me a little money... as we all know these kayak builds can be an endless out flow of money, but worth the final results.
