I have several of Bill's cheap planes from Harbor freight.
The purpose was to try and set up specific exact angles for cutting the edges of strips.
Alas, as everyone knows a plane will cut smoother if it is held at an angle to the direction of cut. My home-made guides kept it normal to the length of the strip making it more difficult to use.

The plane as it comes was remarkably sharp, and I even accomplished sharpening it.

But I abandoned using such a small tool. It seemed difficult to keep the desired angle on the edge of the strip, since the body of the plane was is so small it is hard to tell the angle at which I was holding it.
Perhaps others will have more success.
