Getting it 'just right'.... well, that's above my pay grade! I've molded fiberglass over a 'similar sized but thinner' gasket, then placed a slightly thicker gasket in the recess. Not quite perfect, and getting the seal 'excellent' has been a challenge. While I like the look of flush hatches, I'm sorely tempted to put in commercial, rubber hatches this time around.
