That's a big part of not doing a kit, you can size and shape the materials to fit your needs, instead of the needs of the kit maker.

You can also include woods that the kit maker can't or won't include.

Advantage to the kit is all the materials and building guides etc. are in the box along with the epoxy, so you aren't spending time finding all the parts.
