Next time look at polyester. It doesn't slacken when wet and you waterproof it with most anything. It is not finicky like nylon. 8 oz fabric isy a loose weave and bit hard to work with the first time because you get a lot of pull holes sewing it. It heat shrinks but it tends to relax a little too. I have used it on a lot of boats and holds up quite well.

I found a 11.7 oz polyester that is a very tight weave and while it is a bit stiff, you can sew it drum tight, literately! Then you can apply paint, varnish, poly or ???? to seal it. I sell it and it is a bit pricey at $7 a foot but it is my best seller by far. I use it on all my boats I build now.
