Thanks, guys.
This is my first SOF and thus I'm running a gauntlet of "firsts." Working with this nylon skin takes the cake, though!
I ended up removing the lacing, spraying down the deck, and re-shrinking the skin. It did an OK job or removing the big puckers caused by the lacing. I coated the hull last night and found the 2 part urethane miserable to deal with and am glad I took the chance and got the deck skin a bit more smooth. I'm resigned to the skin going a bit slack when in use. To another time I will definitely sew on a damp skin in an attempt to take up the slack at the get-go. I've read of concerns of overtightening and damaging the frame but this now seems unlikely given the modest degree of shrinking.
I read something on the Spirit Line tutorials page that suggest that shrinking with high heat makes the shrinking permanent, but I don't know...
Unrelated- I used Spirit Line's rare earth pigment to color the urethane. Again, I was winging it- not a lot of practical guidance available on the 'net on how to achieve different looks. I'm wishing now that I had used their acid dye to tint the nylon itself. The colored urethane is simply not saturated enough with color do to produce much more than a water-colored effect. I compounded this by choosing a darker pigment. Using both might offer a good combination of depth and variation in tone. Can you tell I'm biased toward wood?
Thanks for the help guys,
Patrick
