Skin-on-Frame: sustainable skin ??

Hi all,
I build an aluminium folding kayak with the help of some of the plans in this forum. As a lot of you feel when putting a home-build on the water, so do I: Ready to build the ultimate boat!
Anyway, after enjoying the water in my neighbourhood I've got growing conserns about the skin. I didn't really get any info about it when I bought it, but I don't doubt that it's environmentally unfriendly, a sort of pvc. I have been looking around but not found anything that aspire for an environmentally friendly skin ..
Does anyone have a suggestion?
I feel that the question is more complex than it looks. What am I to ask for in the store/online.
