the boat was stained after the hull and deck was completed with wood glue but prior to a sealer coat of epoxy or the first application of glass. its basically the last step before glassing.

i used Behlen's stain...alcohol based....no oil. the color here is Nutmeg.

stain bleeds easily so contrasting pieces need some special handling. so the white pieces on the sheer and stem/stern went on after the rest of the hull was stained.
