Lashing is the only method I've used, so I don't know for sure. However, I believe lashing is very slow indeed. A high-quality lasing join takes a few minutes, even if you are skilled at it. It will be stronger though than any other method.
I built SOF boats that had 8 frames and 10 longitudinal elements (1 keelson, 2 gunwales, 1 deck stringer, 3 chines X 2) That is 80 joins, then you need to add a few dozen for stern and bow plates. I'd expect that epoxying (not gluing) would go much faster. I am not even convinced that you need screws, but won't argue about this point. It also depends on how tight you can put the skin on (the tighter the better), and paddling conditions.
For a boat that goes on the big waves in the ocean I'd still stick with lashing. For mellower conditions on lakes/rivers, just epoxying may be good enough.
As I said, if a method is good enough for Tom Yost, it is good enough for me.
