If you go for the shearwater, I would suggest go for the 17ft hybrid. It is an attractive boat, performs well and will give you the opportunity to get into some stripping as you do the deck.
It is also a nice volume, ok for biggish guys for day tripping, and also for smaller folk. My wife at 5' 2" is very happy in it and uses it almost exclusively. I wouldn't go for the smaller shearwaters for general use unless you were a very lightweight.
