You obviously acquired no skills in your work with hand tools, then? Not skills with machines, but skills nonetheless. If it were as easy to pick up, sharpen, and use a hand plane as you believe it to be, anyone who could sign their name would be able to draw like Leonardo da Vinci, correct? Writing and drawing require the same foundation skills.
Don't let what is easy for you cloud your understanding of what is easy for anyone else.

My skill in this area is based on my unwillingness to accept bad work.I wouldn't call it skill,more like bloody mindedness .Ugly work is my bad especially,my own.since I am true to this principle I am only able to persevere until I succeed my standard.I am stuck with the impossible pursuit of perfection which I am constantly reasoning against because I dream of being free of this affliction.I also don't pay my self and would starve if my output were commercialised.
Nether the less my glue is stronger than my wood and I believe this means my struggles are just about my own need for "peace of mind" to be able to progress through to the paddling stage of the build.All that perfection gets the snot beaten out of it as I convert from a builder to my true passion of being a restorer,looking for a cause.Here is a plug for strippers,after at least 3000 km of paddling one of my boats there is still no need to restore it.Now that's frustrating!
I hope this helps explain "my" facts,as I see them,around strip edge joints.
