I like to use 6oz. on the inside and 4oz on the outside.

If the primary concern is 'puncture resistance' aka catastrophic failure that's a strong combination (for the weight).

I'm more concerned with abrasion (rocks and barnacles), so I put the heavier glass (and more resin) on the outside of the hull.
