Mike,
Please do not use an oil stain as the epoxy will not adhere to it. you will need to use a water based product like Behlens. 6 ounce glass sounds right but if you want lighter weight use 4 ounce and baby the boat. I have had good luck with System three's Silvertip epoxy I buy from Jamestown Distributors. Cheseapeake Light Craft also sells epoxy and fiberglass cloth.
