If you don't already have it in your library, you should pick up Kayakcraft as it explains quite well the sheer clamp. I did a Bjorn design and added the notches for sheer clamp following Ted Moores' directions. I notched the forms to accommodate a 1/2 by 1/2 inch strip. this strip does not get glued to the hull but to the deck. So it is in place when you build the hull but not glued to it. When you build the deck, then you glue the first sheer strips to the sheer clamp. This way when you put the deck onto the hull later, the hull gets pushed out so that the sheer clamp fits into the hull. If the hull is a little narrow, then the clamp holds it out. If it is a little wide, then clamps or screws pull it in. This way sheer line stays true to form. For the sheer clamp, I simply laminated up with epoxy a few scrap cedar strips right onto the forms, (a solid piece would do) let set, then planed down to form edges. Same is done on deck after hull is glassed to get rolling bevel across all forms.
