Strip: Glass warp & weft direction

Has anybody tried running the warp of fiberglass cloth across the grain of a strip boat to add strength?
Cedar is obviously stiff enough with the grain but across the grain and seams is where the strength is required.

I have limited experience with glass types but I was lead to believe you can get glass with a lot more longitudinal fibers (warp) than across (weft). That would be bad for a strip boat if you lay it on lengthwise in one piece but really good if you did multiple pieces across the grain - but still only one layer except for the overlap.
