I think you are pretty much stuck in the middle of the seat, depending on the size of the seat and the size of your rear.

Bjorn Thomasson likes to use seats without side restrictions for improved flexibility in rolling and paddling. I like the comfort and support of the foam seats but I think they are the most restrictive. I am usually in the boat for three hours or so at a time, and it remains to be seen if I can do without that comfort.
