I've used the same as Rob and had good results. I've also done well with with 3M Hi-Stength 90 spray adhesive. I just noticed that there is a 3M Rubber and Vinyl Spray Adhesive http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-24-oz-Rubber-and-Vinyl-Spray-Adhesive-80/100174709 which might be just the ticket.

Spray adhesive is nice alternative for easy even application.
