I am exagerating the leg motions a bit in this video. I can't paddle like this for too long (unless I am trying to race, which I don't do too often). There are a ton of other issues with my technique in this video, so don' try to emulate it :)

The catch at the 26th second is really close and how it should be more or less, so I thought it would be good to show how the cut away helps. On the leg drive: I had noticed it is a bit less effective than I think it could/should be (my pushing leg starts to straighten before the paddle is in the water during the catch and this video confirms it, even though I was trying to delay the pumping action conciously).

My toe pedals are in-line with the foot plate. Usually I am not touching them too much while I paddle., so the rudder does not tilt unintentionally. And they are close enough to my toes to make contact if it does tilt to not let it tilt too much on its own. At any rate, I have not noticed too much of an interference of my leg drive with the ruder pedals. I have very large feet so a bit of the balls of the feet is near the pedals for me, which is not ideal. Even with the Big Foot plate on the Epic ski. Most people will and should have their full feet on the foot plate and push with the whoel foot or with the heels primarily (unlike in a kayak where the push is through the balls of the feet). When you push with the full foot or the heel, you don't disturb the pedals with your toes. It takes a bit of "separation training" to make sure the toes don't push when you push with the rest of the foot...

Will you have enough space in your Ykon to have full foot contact? Most sea kayaks have low decks and are intended for the feet to point forward and you push the foot rests with the balls of your feet. At least, this is how they are for me with my size 15 feet. Even in my white water boat I have to be like this - very few large creekers allow me to let my foot flat on their foot boards.

One way to minimize the rudder movement is to strap a bungee to the front of the pedals to keep the pedals/rudder centered.

When you have that much leg pumping how do you avoid rudder movement? If your forefeet /toes are off the peddles wouldn't the rudder flutter and not be as effective?
I have a footpeddle set up on my Yukon and trying to get it set up correctly. Dealt with this on my Fenn also.
To sum up: Seems the peddles should be canted back to allow for proper rudder movement ..and then to get good push off you need the board in the right position.

Is there a conflict with proper rudder control and push off for rotation?
Not critical of your paddling...Just trying to understand the most effective way to set my footboard up and get good push off.
