I had a quiet trip like that once after a sudden thick mist came down. It was so quiet, just the chuckle from the water under the bow, plus the terror of realising I didn't have a GPS or a compass, no wind either. I was on my way back to the beach so I made a quick note of the direction of the waves and used that as a direction indicator. Fortunately I didn't have far to go, about 20 minutes then heard the shingles, missed my target by only 100 yards or so.

Oh yeah, the mist cleared up before I even reached the car, I could have just waited it out, but you probably guessed that . . .

Then there was the not so quiet trip when I was paddling home in bright sunshine which suddenly turned of like a light. Looked up and saw huge thundercloud right overhead, oh, oh, better get a move on I thought. Thoughts get drowned out by monstrous clap of thunder with the virtually instantaneous flash we all love to experience when out on the water, right? probably my fastest mile ever in a canoe.

Yep, we paddlers are so lucky, we can get close to nature in all its varied moods . . .
