On my last F1 build I used pine for gunwales. I need to build another F1 for my wife and pine seems to be in short supply. I did find a supply of 1 x 8 x 16 SPRUCE, with some tiny knots for a good price.

I'm asking all you wise folks to confirm that spruce with tiny knots will make good gunwales?
