Ignore the very dark and the white wood accents. The lighter timber is flat sawn cedar and the darker at the sheer is quarter sawn cedar.

The flat sawn strips can give quite a pretty effect if you take the trouble to match them symmetrically on the deck.

They need more care when sanding though, to get an even surface without the softer sections forming dips.
