Switch from cove and bead strips to rolling bevel, because it is easier to adjust the width of the strips. Then put the bow strips as far onto the bilge as you can and still tame the twist in the strips. A heat gun applied to the strips can help put some considerable twist into the strips. I would let the stern end be my guide as to how far I would place hull-side strips onto the hull-sole. But then switch to keel strips as soon as you can because those are much easier to place once you get the first two fitted in place.

You can use wood of a different color for the hull sole For example switch from western red cedar to northern white cedar. An observers eye is drawn to the contrasting wood colors, rather than the gaps that you fill with dookie-schmutz.
