Thanks for your suggestions. The length probably is about 9 to 9.5 'now that you mentioned it. I never actually measured the boat. I just know that when in the back of the truck (8' bed length) It rests on the closed tailgate while oriented diagonally with the front end down in the bottom front corner. I installed a keel strip as suggested, took it out on calm water for about 10 minutes. It tracked much better, I also played around with different paddling techniques and as suggested earlier, found shorter strokes closer to the boat worked quite well. The true test however will be when my wife jumps in and paddles away.
