Just called West Marine. They tell me fiberglass with the resin hardener IS epoxy. Is calling it fiberglass or epoxy just a matter of terminology? Where would fiberglass be used without the hardener? I am talking about the liquid, NOT the fiberglass cloth.

The liquid you mention is epoxy resin, which reacts chemically with the hardener, in a specific ratio.

The resin you often see in auto parts stores is polyester resin, which hardens 'on its own' after the addition of a small amount of catalyst. The catalyst is also commonly called 'hardener'.

Using the word fiberglass for the composite product is confusing. We got in wrong in North America; the Brits call it FRP - much clearer.
