When using ipe, like teak, it is a good idea to wipe the glue joint with acetone. Part of the reason it is so good for decks is that it is a little oily. It doesn't bend well, both very stiff and can splinter in some cases. If weight is a concern I would use is sparingly. It is very strong so small pieces hold up well. Some pieces look very pretty. Here is a short comparison: Ipe, to metal. They both sink in water.
