Let's talk vacuum-bagging and infusion. We can all agree that they are great ways to create light layups. They are also incredibly wasteful. Think about it. Both methods may save a some epoxy but how many yards of peel ply, breather and film are put in a landfill? All of them are petrol-derived.

Sorry, I didn't mean to preach but I suppose I got a little carried away there;-)
I agree with what you are saying and I am totally aware of the fact that my building process is quite wasteful (although it's getting a lot better on my current build, full infusion instead of vac-bagging). This is also why I would never put a "green" sticker on my boats. Apart from all things mentioned I also know that carbon fiber probably has the worst effects on the environment due to its extremely high energy consumption during production (oh and the precursor is probably also petrol-derived).
I think the reason I was heating up on this issue is that nowadays a rising number of manufacturers (less kayak, mainly surfboard and skateboard) indeed use low VOC stuff, green epoxy etc. and then start marketing their product as totally eco-friendly – to me, that's plain lying. Yes, it's a good thing to lower one's carbon footprint but I still don't think "boat building" and "green" should be mentioned in the same scentence too often.

ok, now back to the important things in life: kayaking!
