Here's a pic of the damage. I hosed it off yesterday morning, and let it dry. I came back today, and it doesn't seem anywhere near as bad. With out the moisture the wood tightened right back up, and is not appreciably different at the stems anymore. Much of the black I was seeing yesterday seems to have disappeared when dried. I think the remaining black might actually just be mildew?

I think my solution doesn't have to be anything drastic after all. I'll just dismantle and clean the joints, and re-glue along with a screw or some lashing.
