I wonder if someone can give me a method for boring the holes in the bow and stern
for the carry handles.

Here's an extract from notes I made in 2005, when I built my first S&G Arctic Tern:
-located the stem holes for the toggles
-put 2” masking tape along the deck and stem edges
-measured 1-1/2” from absolute edge of stem and outside edge of filler at deck (not where hull plywood meets filler, but where deck plywood meets filler)
-intersection of those lines = center of hole to be drilled
-center punched locations identified above
-leveled kayak in cradles; checked with spirit level across coaming
-built a “trolley” to level the drill at a point even with the point to be drilled
-fine tuned alignment of drill and mark, using wedges at cradle
-drilled 7/64” pilot hole through the stern, which exited exactly at the mark on the other side!
-bow hole off by 1/8” – drilled from other side, too
-drilled from both sides with ¾” wood bit
-bow met perfectly

Here's a photo of the "trolley" I used to keep the drill level with the worktable and at the desired height above the table. Of course, the location you desire for the hole may be different, but the method I used may work for you. I hope this helps.
