Both Nick's and One Ocean do a similar lay up of the fiberglass to build out the lip. The difference is that is One Ocean kayak uses a gasket as a mould to place a channel (for rubberized gasket) in the fiberglass lip that enable flush mounted hatches. You use the thicken epoxy to blend the transtion from the sacrifice gasket to the surrounding area... Its difficult for the fiberglass to conform to the sharp edges of the sacrifical gasket. Once you apply the thicken epoxy (like chaulking a bathroom tub), immediately start layering the fiberglass strips per Nick's or One Ocean Kayak. If you reading Nick's "The Strip-Built Sea Kayak", instead of waxing and PVA as a mould release, just cut a sheet of over sized clear contact paper and stick to the inside of the hull.

I put an outline of the tasks in a previous message:

For full procedures I would purchase a One Ocean kayak booklet for the step by step and pictures.
Good luck---

PS: This is a neat process in making a factory looking part....
