You'll also likely have to re-learn rowing, those boats often used overlapping oars, the insides of the oars don't miss each other when they meet in the middle of the boat, so you have one arm on top of the other and to maintain a straight course you have to alternate the overlap as the oar deeper in the water gets more bite on the water than the shallower one. Otherwise you'd need really short oars which arn't very efficient.
