Skin-on-Frame: Anyone want a kayak?

Anyone want a kayak?

I've got this monster I built last year which is really way too big for me (and my garage) and I'm trying to get it out of my garage. It's a nice traditional-style greenland skin-on-frame, all wood, doweled and lashed, no metal fastners to be found.

It's real nice except for the fact that it's sized for Shaq. It's ~18' long, I believe the max beam is somewhere in the 24" range. The masik is way too high. the back brace is about 4 inches too far from the masik for me (6' 250#). It tracks like it's on rails, but sometimes not in the direction you actually want to go. It was my first yak and I was mostly just guessing on how it should feel.

It's skinned in polyester and sealed with polyurethane.

Gunwales and stringers are some manner of pine/spruce, the ribs are white oak, lashed with artificial sinew. Masik is white oak. Deck lines are all manilla with oiled white oak toggles.

I think it would look splendid hanging up inside your north-woods lodge (or your new applebee's franchise, it's beautiful!), or perhaps you could strip it and rebuild the cockpit area and get something halfway useable. I'd really love to hang onto it, but it's just so gigantic I can't imagine ever having a place to put it, and I'm building a new boat that's sized a little more appropriately, so I don't have much interest in rebuilding it.

As for price - ? If it actually fit anyone it might be worth some $$, but as is, who knows. Maybe a trade for something interesting (A nice paddle? A bunch of beer? Some dry mead? A makita electric chainsaw? A fistful of dollars?). Make me an offer!

I'm in SE Michigan (Ann Arbor to be precise), I'd have no problem meeting someone halfway depending on the location and the deal.

Apologies for the "for-sale" posting, it's just a nice-looking boat and I'd hate for it to go to waste. Turns out it's hard to find people who want an 18' long traditional kayak? Who knew?

I'll try and dig up some pictures today. If you're interested let me know and I'll get you some contact info.
