Epoxy: Epoxy runs

Hi:
I have encountered a problem with fiberglassing my Night Heron. When I fiberglassed the inside of the deck, I was a little carless with the epoxy and put on a little excess. The excess ran (unbeknown to me) onto the top of the cockpit recess and thigh braces, and left runs that ended in drops. Since I didn't notice it right away, the epoxy is now hardened. I'm trying to figure out a way to clean it up. I'm thinking that I might be able to sand it down so it is flush with the epoxy on the cockpit recess, and appy thin coat of epoxy over the rough spots, and that may clean it up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jack Hawkins
