Greetings, fellow reprobates!

It's that time again - time to consider a new design/build. I follow this board pretty religiously, and realize 1)there's a lot of designs to choose from 2) one size doesn't fit all and 3)best way to 'know' which is the 'best' design is to go to a MATB and try some on for size.

Alas - it's a tough criterion when living on the plains of Nebraska. I've gone with recommendations before, pretty successfully; built a Chesapeake 17 (before I found this site, and talked with LeeG), then built a One Oceans Storm LT for my daughter. Lovely boat; although I weigh more than the 'ideal' weight, still prefer paddling it. But daughters new hubby is interested in a boat, which I'd like to make. Although the SOF's of Mr. Yost are tempting, he'd prefer a stripper. He's a bigger guy - 6'2", 210 or so - carries his weight high. Not experienced, but eager to learn. Found the Chessie a bit 'unstable' at first.... so the learning curve should definitely be videotaped!

Boats I've considered - 1) Petrel 2) Night Heron 3) Outter Island 4) King 5) Storm or Expedition 6) also intrigued by FireStar

Any other considerations? I've read the reviews here long enough to have an idea on suggestions - esp. that YMMV applies dramatically on this topic. Daytripping, likely exclusively. When he can keep the 'hole' on the correct side of the boat, I imagine he'd like to play in rough water. Don't take the 'recommendations' request too seriously - I've got cabin fever, and just need to 'daydream' a bit. Thanks for the conversation.
