Couple ways, a butt joint with a backing block works. Better is a scarf, but doing it on plywood on a boat is very time consuming, not terribly hard though, a disc sander either orbital or random orbit and a hand plane will cut a scarf fairly easily. Then the new piece just has to be epoxied on and re-skin it.
