Polyester is a lousy glue, so using it for cedar strip isn't a great idea, it's also quite brittle though some of the newer modified resins are better. It sets very fast, in hot weather initial cure can be in well under 10 minutes, gives very little working time. Most polyester resin is for laminating and is made without wax so it never cures hard, it's not supposed to. With wax added it'll cure hard.

Polyester eventually chaulks with exposure to UV in the sun, looks much like unprotected epoxy. You can't add the wax to epoxy, very different chemistry.
