Aesthetics?

How about making some freaking, dummy wood strip covers, for the "sewer tank lids".

I restored a wood rowing shell for a customer. It had those screw in plastic inspection ports
on bulkheads, fore and aft. I covered them with a screwed on, wooden lid, and handle which
made them blend in with the rest of the boat nicely.

Think outside of the box (sewer tank).
