: I agree totally. However, the reason woodworking/boatbuilding is so
: enjoyable to us, is due in part to the fact that we do not have
: to make a living at it. We can take the time to enjoy the dust
: clouds or the wood curling off our handplanes, all while
: enjoying a stiff snort. I don't know how guys like Rob, Nick et
: al. make a living doing what they do, but I wish them well and
: understand that I wouldn't have been able to make my boat and
: have other boats planned without their products and services.

You are so right. This is probably why, without fail, we are always asked, "how long does it take?"

People are wondering on some level how it can possibly be even remotely possible to make a living from it, which, of course, if we are being honest about it, it isn't: possible I mean. Considering the time involved and the material expenses and the workshop and heating the workshop, and machinary, and the alimony payments, I don't see how it can be done. Not really.

I always answer the question: "how long does it take?" with the answer, "About eighteen feet"

Et.
