: Thanks for the info. I am not quite clear on the grip: it reads
: like the outer 3 fingers are around the root of the blade and
: the thumb and forefinger are round the loom for a regular,
: non-sliding style. Is that correct? It sounds like a rather
: comfortable fit into the hand, actually. Once I understand that
: I will know how best to shape it for my hands, which are maybe a
: bit smaller than usual for my height.

: Also given the short loom length, there seems little point in
: trying to make the loom hollow to reduce weight - only a few
: ounces would be saved.

All dimensions are variable to your liking. My kayaks are narrow but I still prefer a 24" loom which is 6 or 7 inches wider than is anatomically correct. Perhaps because I always use torso rotation and I'm always in interesting water. Make several from cheap wood and when you have a paddle you like use the good stuff.

Here are some sites to start you on your way:
Chuck Holst, a recognized GP guru: http://www.qajaqusa.org/QK/makegreen2.pdf
Matt Johnson, a nice YouTube presentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7twy95IdtI&feature=gv#!

I have not tried this carving fixture, but it looks interesting: http://www.qajaqusa.org/cgi-bin/GreenlandTechniqueForum_config.pl?page=1;md=read;id=608580

This is not a free service. Pictures of finished product are expected ; )
