: I started building a Petrel and have a question I'm hoping I can
: get some help with.

: I lofted the froms from Nick's book (3rd edition) in ACAD
: everything seemed to look good. I printed full size forms, glued
: to plywood and cut out. After I mounted them onto the strong
: back I checked fair at the sheer line and it looks like one of
: the forms is off by about 1/8". Has anyone else had this
: problem?
: I checked the strong back and the centeline of the forms with a
: laser and it looks good. Should I just adjust to get it fair
: (make sure it's symmetrical) and not worry about it?

: Thanks:
David

Hi David,
I am part way through a Petrel also.1/8" is worth ironing out otherwise you will get a bump or dip on the rest of the surface in that area. It's very hard fairing them out by that much.I found a couple of forms were "out" [vertically] after I started stripping the shear line so I allowed the strip to do what it wanted on these stations and also, I just put packing on the surfaces to keep the strips fair as these were going to be dips which meant I could get away with it.Bumps would be more critical to get rid of. Also a station every 12" is plenty to get wrong.Your eye is all that needs to be satisfied but this is the time to be as critical as you can afford the time to be.Then just go for it.
Paul.
